Celebrating International Day of People with Disability with Onemda

Today, Onemda’s campuses came alive with celebration, connection, and joy as we marked International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD). Across our eight campuses, participants and staff came together in meaningful ways to reflect on this year’s theme, "Amplifying the Leadership of Persons with Disabilities for an Inclusive and Sustainable Future."

At our Doncaster East main campus, the excitement was palpable as participants hit the dance floor for an all-day disco. The festivities included a delicious feast of pizza and lasagne, fueling the fun and laughter. It certainly was a day of connection, celebration, and community in full swing.

MC2 and Templestowe campuses shared in the spirit of the day with a wonderful morning tea hosted at MC2, bringing participants together to share stories and smiles. Over at Westmeadows, a cozy on-site morning tea provided the perfect setting for participants to connect and enjoy the day.

Participants from the Glenroy Pathways to Independence and Employment campus brought the rhythm to life with a vibrant music performance at the Glenroy Hub, off the back of learning the music and songs over the past three months thanks to a music program called "OUT HEAR", in which participants celebrated the power of creativity and self-expression.

Meanwhile, our Ringwood and The Basin campuses hosted a unique event at the Manningham Council depot, where participants and Council staff came together to mark the day. With the Embrace Cafe trailer serving coffee and a sausage sizzle firing up the barbecue, it was a heartwarming celebration of inclusion, collaboration, and good times!

As we celebrate today, we reflect on the contributions and leadership of people with disability within our community and beyond. At Onemda, leadership is exemplified by our Onemda Council, comprised of participants who help shape our programs and provide invaluable input into our strategic direction.

On this day of recognition, we are reminded of the importance of building a more inclusive and sustainable future. Together, we celebrate the leadership, achievements, and contributions of people with disability and reaffirm our commitment to creating spaces where everyone can thrive.

Happy International Day of People with Disability.
