Creative talents shine as participants win big at the Sunbury Show
Post Created: 18 October 2024
It was a weekend of celebration and artistic achievement for participants from Onemda’s Glenroy Campus, as eight talented individuals from the ‘Living, Learning, and Social Skills’ program proudly showcased their artwork at the recent Sunbury Show on October 12th. The competition featured various categories under the theme of Homecrafts, drawing, and painting, and the results were nothing short of impressive. Participants' creations, crafted with watercolours on thick painting paper, captivated the judges and earned a selection of first, second, and third places across different art categories.
Each Thursday, participants immerse themselves in Onemda’s art program, where creativity flourishes, and self-expression is encouraged. For the past few months, their focus has been on preparing for the Sunbury Show, channelling their skills and ideas into unique pieces that reflect their individual perspectives. The competition theme provided a wonderful opportunity for the artists to explore their imaginations and convey their experiences in a visual format.
The Glenroy Campus art program isn’t just about making beautiful works of art; it’s a meaningful space where participants develop confidence, learn new techniques, and find joy in creating. The process of producing artwork helps build essential life skills like problem-solving, patience, and attention to detail. Through activities such as drawing and painting, participants can explore new ways of communicating and connecting with the world around them, which is a cornerstone of Onemda’s mission.
The journey to the Sunbury Show was made possible thanks to staff member Rebecca, who generously transported the artwork to the venue, ensuring the participants’ creations could be shared with the wider community. “We are so proud of our participants,” said Inderbir, Glenroy's Campus Coordinator. “They put a lot of heart and effort into these pieces, and seeing them displayed and celebrated at the show was incredibly rewarding for everyone.”
The art competition not only brought recognition and accolades but also created a sense of accomplishment and pride among the participants. Winning in various categories reaffirmed their talents and encouraged them to continue exploring their artistic abilities. It was a reminder that creative expression has no boundaries, and with dedication and support, every individual can achieve something special.
Onemda extends its heartfelt congratulations to the participants for their outstanding achievements at the Sunbury Show. Their success reflects the spirit of resilience, creativity, and community that defines the Glenroy Campus and all of Onemda’s programs. The team is already looking forward to further opportunities where participants can share their skills and stories, inspiring others through their art.
As we celebrate this triumph, we are reminded of the power of art to bring people together, nurture growth, and open doors to new possibilities.
