Freedom on Wheels - Trying out Tricycles
Post Created: 06 December 2024
Excitement was in the air when Hayley and Liz from Freedom Bicycles visited Onemda’s Glenroy Living, Learning, and Social Skills (LLS) campus. Their van, packed with seven tricycles and helmets, brought the promise of adventure, fun, and a chance for participants to experience something new.
Participants had the opportunity to test out the tricycles in the safety of the car park, with staff lending a helping hand to ensure everyone felt confident and supported. The joy was palpable as participants pedalled away, with some even turning the activity into an impromptu game of “dodgem cars.” Thanks to the quick thinking and guidance of staff, the playful energy was channelled into a safe and enjoyable experience for all.
This initiative was made possible through Onemda’s Assistive Technology Expo, which facilitated the connection with Freedom Bicycles. It’s a fantastic example of how collaborations can lead to meaningful opportunities for participants.
Looking ahead, Onemda is optimistic about securing community grants to fund tricycles for participant programs. These trikes could open up new possibilities, enabling them to engage with the community in an inclusive, active, and exciting way.
The day was a huge success, filled with smiles, laughter, and the thrill of trying something new. Stay tuned as we continue to explore innovative ways to empower participants and enrich their experiences!
