Celebrating International Day of People with Disability – 3 December 2024

Each year, International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) challenges us to rethink disability, creating greater awareness and inclusivity. This year’s theme, "Amplifying the Leadership of Persons with Disabilities for an Inclusive and Sustainable Future," resonates deeply with Onemda’s values.

In Australia over 5.5 million people live with a disability. At Onemda we proudly support more than 281 individuals across Melbourne, constantly innovating to ensure our services are meaningful, responsive and goal-oriented.

The Onemda Council, comprised of participants, exemplifies leadership as they help to shape our services and provide invaluable input into Onemda’s strategic direction. This year we introduced differently structured timetables at select campuses, tailored to meet the unique needs of participants. These initiatives, alongside our flexible and evolving programs, reflect our commitment to placing participants at the heart of everything we do.

Innovation drives us forward. Through our Research & Innovation Centre, we promote evidence-based practices like Person-Centred Active Support (PCAS), which supports people with disability to engage in meaningful activities and social interactions. Collaborating with our Group Services and Therapy Teams, we are embedding PCAS as a core practice across Onemda, ensuring the engagement and enhancing the quality of life for those we support.

On this day of recognition, we celebrate the contributions people with disability make to our communities, their leadership, and the vital role each of us plays in building a more inclusive society.

Happy International Day of People with Disability to all!
