For the last year, the Ringwood Golf team have been working with a group of people with disability from Onemda each Wednesday, setting up a work skills volunteer group, organised by Ariana Basarab, Golf Participation and Administrator Coordinator.

Jobs that the group undertake include sand bucket collection, raking bunkers, weeding and mulching garden beds, clearning the sheds and pricing the items for the pro shop.

"There is nothing the group will say no to, they are willing to give anything a go which has been fantastic," said Ariana.

The group give everything a go with ethusiasm, supported by their Support Worker, Steve.

"The relationship Steve has with this group is inspiring and I am grateful to have the opportunity to work alongside Steve and the group, for me this is a mjor highlight. Another highlight is to see the way all of our staff welcome this group into our facility, the banter and interaction the group and our staff have is fabulous," said Ariana.

This initiative highlights the importance of giving members of the community who live with a disability a chance to learn, develop new skills, work in a team and participate and contribute to daily life.

"We can offer an environment which help these individuals to explore their personal interests, develop new skills and prepare them for meaningful employment. It is a strong demonstration of Council and the community working in collaboration to achieve a common goal and where Council values such as supportive, performance, inclusiveness, respect and excellence are strongly highlighted," said Ariana.

Well done to the Ringwood Golf team for their work in this space, and thank you for sharing this with us.
