Serving Confidence - Hospitality Stars Host a Heartwarming Morning Tea
Post Created 04 April 2025
The Glenroy campus came alive with warmth, laughter and the unmistakable scent of freshly baked treats, as participants in the Pathways to Independence and Employment – Intro to Hospitality program hosted a morning tea for parents and carers.
The event at Glenroy Neighbourhood House, was a hands-on opportunity for our aspiring hospitality professionals to showcase the skills they’ve been working so hard to develop over the term in their ACFE (Adult, Community and Further Education) program. And showcase they did.
From the moment guests arrived, participants stepped confidently into their roles, welcoming loved ones with friendly smiles, taking coffee orders with poise, and serving up a delicious selection of slices they’d prepared themselves. Each slice was crafted with care, thoughtfully catering to the diverse dietary needs of guests, including gluten-free, dairy-free and low-sugar options.
Beyond the baking and barista-ing, what was truly on display was the growth in confidence, communication and independence that comes from learning through doing. One participant beamed as they carried a number of coffees out to their guests, proudly announcing, “I made that slice myself!” a simple but powerful moment of pride and self-expression.
The feedback from families was overwhelmingly positive. Parents and carers were thrilled not only by the delicious treats and warm hospitality, but by the chance to see their loved ones shine in an environment that reflected their effort, learning and capability.
Events like this are a reminder of what’s possible when learning environments are hands-on, inclusive and participant-led. They’re also a powerful way to connect with families, foster community, and celebrate every step of progress along the journey to independence and employment.
And we’re not stopping here. Based on the fantastic feedback from this event, Onemda will be looking to create more opportunities for family engagement across all campuses. Whether it’s morning teas, showcases, or celebration days, we’re committed to creating spaces where achievements are shared and communities grow stronger, together.
To the Glenroy participants and the Intro to Hospitality team: thank you for your passion, care and delicious contributions. You didn’t just serve tea, you served joy, pride and a whole lot of heart.
