Sharing memories and building skills with pottery
Post Created: 27 November 2024
Recently, participants from Onemda’s The Basin Campus embarked on their first session of a four-week pottery workshop at Fire & Clay in Lilydale, and it’s safe to say, creativity was in full swing!
Under the expert guidance of technician and instructor Daniel, participants selected their own pottery pieces and began the rewarding process of shaping and molding clay into unique creations. The tactile experience was a standout for many, with participants expressing how soothing and enjoyable it was to work with their hands.
Beyond the creative outlet, the workshop offered a multitude of benefits. It provided a valuable opportunity to enhance fine motor skills, practice listening and following expert guidance, and collaborate in a supportive environment. The excitement of creating something meaningful, coupled with the anticipation of glazing and painting their works throughout the program, has filled the group with enthusiasm. And perhaps the most heartwarming touch? The knowledge that their finished pieces may just make thoughtful gifts in time for Christmas.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to Antigone and Maria for organising this incredible experience. We’d also like to extend our gratitude to Fire & Clay, whom are a Uniting Social Enterprise that has been empowering individuals with disabilities for over 30 years. The organisation’s mission to foster independence, provide meaningful employment, and create a sense of community mirrors Onemda’s own values and vision.
