At Onemda, we strive to empower individuals with intellectual disabilities to pursue their life goals and career aspirations in a vibrant and supportive environment. Through our Living, Learning and Social programs, participants are given the tools and opportunities to achieve greater independence, control, and fulfillment in their lives. One latest example of that is our inspiring partnership with Ringwood Golf, where participants are welcomed into the world of golf course maintenance.
Recently, several of our participants have been warmly welcomed by the team at Ringwood Golf. Under the guidance of the dedicated ground staff and greens keepers, they are gaining invaluable hands-on experience in maintaining the high standards of a golf course. From course maintenance to learning the intricacies of greens keeping, our participants are immersing themselves in an environment that promotes skill development, teamwork, and a sense of accomplishment.
The work on a golf course is diverse and detailed. Participants have been involved in tasks such as collecting and replenishing sand buckets, which all golfers understand as an essential activity to ensure the course remains in pristine condition for players. They have also assisted in maintaining the rough, bunkers and tree lines, which has included getting up close and personal with specialised equipment under the watchful eyes of experienced groundskeepers. This not only enhances their technical skills but also instils a sense of responsibility and pride in maintaining the aesthetic and functional aspects of the course.
Furthermore, participants have had the ability to use the golf course for a hit themselves when the rush of morning golfers passes by. By working on these various tasks, participants are not only learning practical skills but also the importance of teamwork, communication, and attention to detail.
The experience at Ringwood Golf is more than just about gaining work skills; it’s about building confidence and fostering a sense of community. The supportive environment allows participants to grow, learn, and thrive as they take on new challenges. For many, this is a stepping stone towards achieving greater independence and improving their social skills in an external environment.
At Onemda, we believe in the potential of every individual. Our Living, Learning and Social Skills programs support participants to develop their everyday life skills for greater independence, connection and control. The collaboration with Ringwood Golf is a shining example of how community partnerships can create meaningful opportunities and lasting impact.
