Dear Participants, Families & Carers,

We hope you’ve had a good week! Please make sure you take the time to check this week’s updates as some information may affect you, or the person in your care.

TURKEY & SYRIA EARTHQUAKE

Onemda’s thoughts are with the earthquake victims in Turkey and Syria following the earthquake on February 6.

We want to pass on our thoughts and best wishes to anyone from our Onemda community who may have friends and families that have been impacted by this tragic event.

REMINDER TO BE SunSmart!

Please remember to be SunSmart, especially as we plan to spend more time outside when the weather permits. There are five important steps to remember…

  1. SLIP on covering clothing
  2. SLOP on SPF 30 (or higher) broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen
  3. SLAP on a hat
  4. SEEK shade
  5. SLIDE on some sunglasses

FEEDBACK – Let us know what you think!

If you’ve just started your journey with Onemda, welcome! We hope you, or the person in your care are enjoying the service.

Now that you are accessing Onemda services, we will be following up with participants, families and/or carers in the coming weeks to ask for your initial feedback. We’re keen to know what has worked well and hear any suggestions you may have for future newcomers to Onemda.

Your feedback and ideas are very important to us.

Please remember that everyone can provide feedback to us at any time, here, or you can send an email to [email protected]

IMPORTANT REMINDER – CARPARK SAFETY

The carparks at our Onemda campuses can get very busy, particularly at drop-off and pick-up times. If you are visiting an Onemda campus at any time, or transporting someone to or from their programs, please travel under 10km an hour at all times in carpark areas and pay careful attention to your surroundings, watching for people who may be moving from in between parked vehicles. Thank you for helping keep everyone safe!

HAVING A SAY RETURNS IN 2023…

VALID, in association with Inclusion Australia (NCID) presents the Having a Say Conference 2023! Absent for 2 years (thanks to COVID), the Having a Say conference is the largest conference for people with disabilities within Australia where people can find their voice, to speak up, to be heard and to be respected. The aim of the conference is to empower people with a disability with the opportunity to ‘have a say’ about issues that affect their lives and to celebrate ability and achievement.

This year’s event will be running from 20-21 February, and you can join in person at Deakin University, Waterfront Campus, Geelong, or attend online. For more information about this year’s event, including the program, how to register, and more please visit their website.

CAMPUS HIGHLIGHT

THE BASIN – Living, Learning & Social Skills (LLS)

The Basin Campus has hit the floor running this year with some fantastic new additions to the timetable!

Much-loved activities have returned including, bowling, swimming, and BBQ Bushwalking – just to name a few! We have also commenced our partnership with Box Hill TAFE with some participants attending ACFE (Adult Community Further Education). This opens up a new level of learning and education and it has been warmly welcomed by those involved.

This term some participants are taking part in Hospitality Hotspot! As part of this program, they will learn all about barista work and how to run a café. We can’t wait for their first trial at making coffees for The Basin campus – staff are eagerly waiting to taste test!

The Studio Art group are looking at Modern Art this term and have worked on a 'homage' to Kandinsky. Participants have produced some great pieces using chalk and pastels!

We hope you enjoy the weekend. We’re always here to help if you have questions or need information.
