Onemda Weekly eNews - Friday 11 November 2022

Dear Participants, Families & Carers,

Welcome to your weekly news from Onemda. As always, there are plenty of updates this week, so please take the time to read through as some information may affect you, or the person in your care.

REMINDER: ANNUAL FAMILIES & CARERS’ SURVEY

Time is running out to complete our 2022 Onemda Families and Carers’ Survey.

It’s important for as many people as possible to do the survey, which will take about 7-17 minutes maximum, depending on how many Onemda services you access. It’s anonymous, so you can be completely honest – we want the results to be a true reflection of the opinions and ideas of our community.

Thanks in advance for your time and your valuable insights! If you have already competed the survey, thank you and please disregard this reminder.

COVID-19 UPDATE

As we are actively working and planning towards returning to some pre-COVID activities and programs, we do require as much cooperation with our guidelines for COVID-19 and any other illnesses. We have outlined a few things below and if you have any questions, please contact us on 98421955, or email [email protected]

  • Participants who test positive for COVID must not attend Onemda for 7 days even if they do not have symptoms. Participants are not to return until they are symptom free and well. There is no need for a positive case to return a negative test result prior to returning.
  • Participants who are unwell with any other illness/virus, are not to attend Onemda until symptom free and well. If unwell and onsite, participants must be collected as soon as possible and not return to Onemda until free of illness.
  • Visitors are allowed onsite, with the following conditions of entry – wearing of a surgical mask, and that they are symptom free and well. All visitors to Onemda should have a scheduled visit, and they should be aware of the conditions of entry prior to coming onsite.

PARTICIPANTS NEEDED FOR RESEARCH

We are seeking participants to join a research project of MedTechVic (Swinburne University) in collaboration with Onemda. The research will look at new approaches for enabling better postural support for clients.

Have you ever wondered how positioning affects quality of life? We want to hear from you, the experts in this topic.

We are looking for people who:

  • Require postural support, OR
  • People who implement postural support for someone as a carer or therapist.

You will be remunerated for your time.

CAMPUS HIGHLIGHT

GLENROY – Pathways to Independence & Employment (PIE)

The weeks are passing by quickly as we head towards the end of 2022 and Glenroy PIE have been busy working on the timetable for next year. 2023 will see more opportunities with TAFE, BRITE and the Onemda Xtend Trailer involvement is currently being finalised to accommodate the new intake for 2023.

The Glenroy PIE cohort have also been able to secure another space at the Neighborhood Learning Centre, which has been much needed for our expanding group. This new space will be utilised as a learning, therapy and chill out zone for program participants.

Halloween was wonderful, with lots of teamwork in designing & creating decorations, scary food ideas & preparation with costumes for the party. The Digital Media program also wrote a script, produced, filmed, AND edited their own horror movie using the IPADs that had been awarded to us with a Post Office Grant. We think the participants may have a career in the film industry!!!!

A highlight from our Campus has been that a participant returned from Tasmania with a Bronze Medal, he won with his basketball team after competing in a Special Olympics Event. He appeared so proud of his achievement, and it was very rewarding observing his peers congratulating him on his medal. This sums up Glenroy PIE perfectly – we work as a team and acknowledge everyone’s individual and group achievements.

Please enjoy the weekend! In the meantime, as always, if you have any questions about anything in this newsletter don’t hesitate to contact us.

Kind regards,

The Onemda Team
