STAYING SAFE WITH COVID-19 – NEW VIDEO!

While restrictions have eased and we are all urged to ‘live with COVID’, there’s no question the pandemic is far from over. That means it’s still important to be aware of how to keep yourself, and your loved ones, safe and healthy.

Inclusions Australia have created a video with Speak Out Advocacy bout how you can live with COVID-19 and stay safe.

You can watch the video here.

SINGLE-USE PLASTICS BAN – HERES WHAT TO DO!

From 1 February, businesses in Victoria will be banned from buying and using single-use plastic straws, stirrers, cutlery, cups and take-away containers.

Straws, in particular, are routinely used by people with disabilities and those who support them, so the government has ensured these will still be available to people with disabilities, their support workers, service providers, family members or friends who support their care.

If you need straws, you will need to request these specially from your retailer. There is no need to prove a disability or medical need. As products may not always be in stock, we recommend you stock up ahead of the ban and allow plenty of time for new orders, to avoid running out.

Of course, with single-use plastics making up a third of the litter in our streets and waterways, it’s always good to think about how you can reduce your reliance on these or find alternatives.

For more information about the ban, access the government’s fact sheets here.

Have you ever wondered how positioning affects quality of life? We want to hear from you, the experts in this topic.

We are looking for people who:

  • Require postural support, OR

HAVE YOU HAD YOUR SAY ABOUT THE NDIS?

The NDIS Review is a chance for you to provide your feedback. Its approach is to ‘LISTEN’ and ‘LEARN’ from people who have lived experience of disability, and the ‘PRIORITISE’ actions based on the information received.

There are many ways that you can have your say. Plus, it’s fully accessible, so you can provide your input online, over the phone, via video or by writing in.

CAMPUS HIGHLIGHT

RINGWOOD – PATHWAYS TO INDEPENDENCE & EMPLOYMENT (PIE)

Ringwood Campus saw 2022 out with a bang! Our Creative Arts group organised an amazing end of year production and gave everyone the opportunity to show off their many talents. The stars of the show were Kath & Kim, along with Kel Knight and Sharon Strzelecki making an appearance. It was noice…. different…. unusual.

After a well-deserved break and some time to relax we have got straight back into the swing of things. To start the year off we will be joining in a workplace tour at Ezy Chef – a commercial catering service. We will also be joining a volunteer training session with Eastern Volunteer Services. Everyone at Ringwood Campus is looking forward to the year ahead and we can’t wait to share more with you in a couple of months’ time!

Please enjoy your weekend!

In the meantime, as always, if you have any questions about anything in this newsletter don’t hesitate to contact us.

Kind regards,

The Onemda Team
