REBOOTING THE NDIS

In an address to the National Press Club on Tuesday, the NDIS minister, Bill Shorten promised a ‘reboot’ of the government's key disability agency, which he says has gone off track. Bill Shorten also promised more staff, longer-term support packages, and a fraud crackdown among other reforms. An independent panel will be providing advice on the overhaul in October.

ONEMDA COUNCIL HAVE THEIR SAY!

A few weeks back, the Onemda Council group met up to provide some input into Onemda's new Strategic Plan. We were joined by a special guest - Richie Feder, who has been working with Onemda on the development of our new Strategic Plan. It was a great opportunity for Council members to have a say in this important process – we look forward to finalising the new plan which will be released in the coming months – stay tuned!

CONSENT FORM REMINDER

The consent forms recently circulated for your completion are now overdue, so if you have not yet returned your copy to us, we would ask that you do so without delay.

The return of these forms is a mandatory requirement for compliance with the NDIS and provides us with the important information we need to make sure we can deliver our services to you. It also seeks your consent to use and disclose that information if necessary.

If you have already returned your form, thank you. If you have not yet done so, please complete and return it as soon as possible. You can either:

  • email it to [email protected]
  • return a to us inside the participant communication diary
  • pass a printed copy to the Manager you deal with directly, or
  • if you attend Doncaster East Main Campus, you can hand over to Reception.

If you have any questions about this form, or how to return it to us, please contact Onemda’s Contracts Administrator on [email protected] or call us on 9842 1955.

CAMPUS HIGHLIGHT

DONCASTER EAST – Living, Learning & Social Skills(LLS)

Term 1 ended with program participants feeling settled and adjusted with their new homeroom and programs. As we kick off with Term 2, you may see some new faces around DE LLS as we’ve welcomed several new casual educator support staff!

The Travel Training program group have enjoyed using the local transport network to visit our Templestowe and Ringwood campuses! This was a wonderful opportunity to fine tune some important skills and also a great opportunity to catch up with friends and staff at other service locations! Another Travel Training group really enjoyed their visit to the Lego store at Melbourne Central, we hear that a few participants didn’t want to leave – yes, it was that good!

As the winter months are nearly upon us, our Stephanie Alexander programs have been busy working on preparing garden beds for planting winter produce.

Finally… Our Monday Advocacy and Communication program has been a huge success! This program has a combination of participants from the Living, Learning & Social and Enrichment & Wellbeing streams. They have joined forces with the Onemda Council and it provides an opportunity to express and discuss any issues that may affect them and other Onemda participants.

The Doncaster East LLS group are really enjoying interacting and socialising with their peers – we have plenty to look forward to in 2023!

We hope you enjoy your weekend and please remember; you are always welcome to contact us if you have any questions or need information.

Just call on 9842 1955 or use the email addresses below.

Kind regards,

The Onemda Team
